“I rise, you rise, we rise” is the concept of Group Therapy.
There are times in our healing journey that doing it alone becomes overwhelming or exhausting. We may not realize it, but this happens to A LOT of people.
Here is where Group Therapy comes into the picture. Group Therapy provides access to a community of people going through the same kinds of things you are.
Suddenly, you are not as alone as you thought. The best part is that not only are you gaining a community, but you also have access to a professional counselor who provides support and guidance.
Working in a group makes for a healthy community that, like yourself, has a focus on healing and achieving the kind of life we all deserve.
Groups cover a variety of topics.
Topics can vary depending on the time of year and the need of the community.
I work with a network of therapists to assess the need of our clients and what we see in our community currently.
We provide groups on suicide prevention, LGBTQ+ communities, couples retreats, parenting, and more.
If you are reading this and seeing a need for a specific community, please do not hesitate to reach out. You are likely not the only one going through a particular problem, and we may provide a group for you.
Why attend Group Therapy and not Individual Therapy?
The short answer is that it depends on your needs.
We have many clients who do both Group Therapy and Individual Therapy.
You may start with a group and then decide that you would like to step into Individual Therapy. Or you may already be in Individual Therapy and decide you would like additional support from a group.
Contact us today to discuss your needs.
Confidentiality is assured.
To the best of our ability, we maintain confidentiality.
Colorado law covers confidentiality in Group Therapy, and we take this seriously. However, there are many moving pieces in Group Therapy, and we cannot control all the variables.
We will discuss confidentiality with each group member before starting the group. We will set expectations of how we will handle confidentiality during and after the group’s conclusion.
Here are the logistics for groups.
Groups typically run from 8 to 10 weeks and meet weekly in various locations. Sessions last 60-90 minutes.
Group Therapy employs a variety of techniques to keep each week engaging and productive. These techniques include activities, educational components, team building, and some work during the week.
Engagement is vital, and we ask that you come prepared to work and with an open mind. It may not feel you are doing therapeutic work, but I can assure you, we design each week with a specific intention.
We design Group Therapy with you in mind. Contact me today to learn more about what we offer and share any ideas you have about a need for Group Therapy in your life.
Currently running groups include…
LGBTQ+ Group (register here) – This group is for Adolescents (Age 11-14).
Group leaders are Erin O’Donnell (Red Aspen Counseling) and Darby Bailey (Abstract Counseling). Please see their bios on Psychology Today.
The purpose of this group is to provide a safe and supportive space for adolescents who are a part of or aligned with the LGBTQ+ community. During the group, we will learn about resources, build coping skills, and navigate tough life choices and scenarios that these young people may encounter.
We will create a community for kids who do not always have access to a safe and welcoming place.
The date is TBA, but when activated, we will meet for 8 weeks. The cost is $400, and payment plans are available. We will meet at Abstract Counseling (room # TBD), 2851 S. Parker Rd., Aurora, CO 80014.
